چکیده

Biceps brachii is stated as one of the muscles that shows most frequent anatomical variations. Its most commonly reported anomaly is the presence of a third head arising from the humerus which is termed as Caput Accessorium ,therefore, detailed knowledge of this variation in different populations is important for surgical interventions of the arm, nerve compression syndromes and in unexplained pain syndromes in the arm or shoulder region. The goal of this study was to elucidate the incidence of this muscle in an adult U.P west population. Upper extremities of the total of 50 cadavers were dissected and studied for the presence of accessory heads of the biceps brachii muscle. The incidence of humeral head of biceps brachii was found to be 6%. In all cases, it was found unilaterally and only in male subjects. Knowledge of the occurrence of humeral head of biceps brachii may facilitate preoperative diagnosis as well as the surgical procedures of the upper limb thus avoiding iatrogenic injuries.

Third head of biceps brachii in an Indian population.

INTRODUCTION The biceps brachii is one of the muscles of the anterior compartment of the upper arm. It is characteristically described as a two-headed muscle that originates proximally by a long head and a short head. The present study was carried out to find the occurrence of a third head of biceps brachii among a sample Indian population from the southern coastal part. METHODS The arms of 4...

Bilateral asymmetric supernumerary heads of biceps brachii

Anatomical variations of the biceps brachii have been described by various authors, but the occurrence of bilateral asymmetric supernumerary heads is rare and has not been reported. We found three accessory heads of the biceps brachii muscle on right arm and an anomalous third head of biceps brachii on left arm. The third, fourth, and fifth heads of right arm originated from the body of humerus...

Unusual Variation of the Biceps Brachii with Possible Median Nerve Entrapment.

The biceps brachii is one of three muscles of the anterior compartment of arm. Variations of the biceps brachii are not rare. The most frequent is the existence of a third head called the humeral head by Le Double (1897) (Rodríguez-Vázquez et al., 1999). Our article is based on the unexpected result of a routine dissection class held for medical students. Dissection was performed according to t...

EMG of arm and forearm muscle activities with regard to handgrip force in relation to upper limb location

The aim of the study was to assess the maximum force of the handgrip depending on four different upper limb locations and to analyse the influence of limb location on muscle activities connected with the handgrip force. Five upper limb and shoulder muscles were examined: extensor carpi radialis longus, flexor carpi ulnaris, biceps brachii caput breve, deltoideus pars anterior and trapezius pars...

Study on the supernumerary heads of biceps brachii muscle in Nepalese.

Biceps brachii is a double headed muscle. In terms of number and morphology of its head, it is one of the most variable muscles in the human body. Most common variation is third head, but four, five or even seven heads have been reported. In this study, 32 arms from 16 Nepalese cadavers were studied; supernumerary heads of biceps brachii were observed in 12.5% of 32 arms. Among these three head...
